I lost my first baby (boy) during my 21st week of pregnancy on 12/24/04. My husband and I both found the courage to try again. I hate the "again" part. We were blessed with a daughter on 4/26/06 and she's the center of our world. Here's the story of my long and emotional journey from losing the first child I loved and raising the second child I love.

...And Everything Nice

Today went better than I could have expected! Everything is "perfect", the doctor's words! And, the big news is...

We're having a baby GIRL!!

I had my appt with the doctor first. I've gained 4 pounds in a month, which she said is right on target. I asked about my sciatic nerve pain and Dr. F said it would get worse before it gets better. ha. And then I got to hear the heartbeat - a bonus since I figured she'd just send me on my merry way to ultrasound.

The u/s room was very cool. They had a flat-screen tv on the wall, so I could see everything without breaking my neck. The baby was moving all around and even 'talking' and yawning! She has all her parts and everything was just as it should be.

I still can't believe she's a SHE!

I then went to BRU and registered for what, I'm sure, is the beginning of the pink and purple parade through our house. It's all so surreal to me, I think I'm still taking it all in.

Today was a wonderful day!

Bloated, Hungry and Impatient

I've had quite a pregnancy revelation over the last few weeks. Although I am still terrified something is wrong, I cannot stop myself from planning for baby. It's strange but I do like it. I told myself I wouldn't get too wrapped up in baby stuff until after my 21st week, but I just couldn't wait that long.

My belly has become quite big! I'm way bigger than I was with my pregnancy - and I'll find out how much weight I've gained since my last appt 4 week ago but I'm guessing it's about 4 or 5 pounds. We'll see. I'm hungry a lot, which I know is good, but it's a little silly how often I can eat. I think of myself as a 'grazer'.

I am also starting to bloat more easily. I know, it's part of the deal. At least it's not my ankles, just my fingers being bloated. It's just something that amuses me.

And then, the nagging voice in my head makes me crazy. Every day I am terrified that my water will break and I will go into labor. It's scary. And I do get a crampy feeling every few days. But, I try to reassure myself that it's probably my stomach growing and if there's no pain or bleeding, I'm okay. And the baby's okay. But it's still scary.

On a good note, I'm starting to feel movement! Mostly at night if I'm sitting still. I'm not getting the big thumps I dream of feeling - hopefully soon. But it is kinda of neat and a reminder that everything's moving along in there.

The big ultrasound is only 2 days away. Actually 34 hours or so. Not that I'm counting. Ha! I seriously cannot wait. I want to see the baby and know that s/he is growing and okay for right now. And I really want to know if he's a he or a she.

I just can't wait.
