I lost my first baby (boy) during my 21st week of pregnancy on 12/24/04. My husband and I both found the courage to try again. I hate the "again" part. We were blessed with a daughter on 4/26/06 and she's the center of our world. Here's the story of my long and emotional journey from losing the first child I loved and raising the second child I love.

Update on Me and the Little Bean

This pregnancy has been so tough for me. One minute I'm fine, the next I'm throwing up. My good days are starting to outweigh the bad days, which is nice. But I'm so tired all of the time, I just want to sleep when I have a free second.

But, everything is going well. I am 15 weeks. Today was another doctor's appt and it went SO great! We heard the heartbeat, which is always amazing. I haven't heard it yet this pregnancy and it made me cry. I can't believe that little bean in there is growing so well and the heartbeat is just beating away.

They also measured my belly, which is 13 cm. I've never had my belly measured, so I don't know what this means! I've gained 3 pounds, which makes me one pound above my starting weight. This is the first time in this and the previous pregnancy that I have gained weight. It's an awesome feeling!

So we go back on November 22nd for my 19-week checkup...and the BIG ultrasound!! Yeah!! I want to see baby and make sure he/she has all it's correct parts. And I really want to find out if it's a he or a she. I think she but everyone else thinks he so we'll know soon!!

Dh and I are going on a mini-vacation for a few days and it's exciting. What a great way to top off my already happy day. Keep 'em coming!!

Over the Hump

Maybe, just maybe, I've gotten through the worst part of the morning sickness. I haven't thrown up in 4 days now, which is a personal record! I've had a few bouts of feeling nauseated, but for the most part, I've been feeling good, I have more energy and I can eat more of what I want.

Holy crap!

Of course, my first freak out thought is maybe something's wrong. But, my tummy is growing and I made my first trip to Motherhood. It's weird to me because last time, I was 5 months and people didn't know I was even pregnant. Now, at 13 weeks, I'm wearing maternity jeans. And I have to say, I kinda like it.

So I'm told with a second pregnancy, you tend to show earlier (ha!) and feel movement sooner. Is this true? I had felt movement last time but I'm just thinking that if I'm already showing, I probably will be big enough to feel movement a little earlier than last time. Just a thought.

And, I feel totally crazy saying it, but dh and I went to the baby store. He suggested it, actually! We're both feeling hopeful and trying to focus on things going right, so we went. I wanted to check out a new stroller (which I love!) and then we left, but it was a fun visit. I didn't have that usually jealous feeling I get when I'm around other pregnant women or in the baby store.

Speaking of jealous, I had a touch of jealousy the other day with my friend. She's pregnant, with her first and has been annoucing it since she was 6 weeks. I can understand her happiness, but she's telling complete strangers and she told her family at another person's family function. I just don't get it. I wish I had that naive feeling she does where I could tell people at 6 weeks, but even now at 13 weeks, most people don't know.

11 more days until my next drs appt.

Feeling A Tad Like Myself (for this moment anyway)

I am having a really good day. The last four days have been torture - I've thrown up almost everything I've eating, I'm not sleeping and I'm downright cranky. But today, I feel okay. I rescheduled a doctor's appointment to 2 days earlier and I wrote down my next one after that - and I feel, dare I say it! - very hopeful.

This whole subsequent pregnancy thing is not easy. I have several pregnant friends who just don't understand what I'm going through. It's not a "normal" pregnancy for me. They told everyone at 5 or 6 weeks that they were expecting. Most of my friends and family doesn't know. They have no problem buying baby stuff or planning their nursery. And they can't understand why even just being pregnant is hard for me.

So, I've made the jump into maternity clothes. Which is just funny. I'm not quite big enough in the tummy for them - but my regular clothes make me look like I'm going to pop. Ugh. So for now, rummaging through my closet, finding something to wear is the highlight of my day.

12 weeks. I can't believe it's already here.
